Case Study 5. Encounter, Warrington.
In 2002 Commhoist Logistics were commissioned to do one of the most ambitious communications lifting projects to date. The Encounter Sculpture in Birchwood, Warrington designed to house telecoms equpment for the '3' Network.
This at the time was the tallest sculpture in the UK and at 27m is taller than both Nelson's Column and The Angel of the North. The process lasted over 12 months and involved Commhoist working closely with the Network Provider '3' and a number of specialist sub contractors to realise the project. Specialist lifting equipment was designed and fabricated to accomodate the unique
shape of the sculpture.
The project involved the following:
- Design of specialist equipment
- Transportation
- Traffic management to allow 2 cranes to work on the M62 slipway
- Management of all lifting and co-ordination activities from start to finish
